Elder D. Lemont and First Lady Patreka Wortham are the founders of Word Community Church; a community "purpose-based" ministry in the heart of Raleigh, North Carolina. Both are natives of North Carolina; Raleigh and Rocky Mount, respectively. They are blessed with three daughters Angell, Brittany and Casey who like their parents, enjoy sharing music ministry with God's people.
Elder DL received his early education in the Wake County Public School system. Upon graduating high school, he attended St. Augustines College, Raleigh, NC before transferring to Central Connecticut State University in New Britan, CT. He later returned to North Carolina and played semi- pro football with the Greensboro Prowlers, an NFL farm team. He is currently pursuing a degree in Public Sector Leadership at North Carolina State University, a active mentor of School/Community Helping Hands Mentoring Program, in the Wake County Public School System and volunteer teacher for Wake Technical Community College GED/Adult High School program. Patreka Wortham first matriculated through the Rocky Mount-Nash school system. She later completed undergraduate and graduate studies in accounting and business at St. Augustine's College and East Carolina University.
Elder DL accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at the age of 14 at First Church of God Christian Camp in Chapel Hill, NC. After early college years, through prayer and earnest desire to be further planted in ministry, he was led to bring his family into Mount Calvary Word of Faith Church. There they grew in ministry under leadership and served in several capacities. In August 2002, Elder DL accepted God’s call to preach the gospel and teach the truth of Jesus Christ in love. He received his ministry license from Mount Calvary Holy Church of America, Inc. Later, he was appointed and served as a local Youth Pastor for 5 years before being led to move further in ministry through pastorship and on June 8, 2012 he was ordained Elder and serves under the Episcopal Leadership of Bishop Harold I. Williams and Pastor Shirley Caesar Williams . It was with prayerful guidance of the Holy Spirit and the blessing of local leadership that Word Community Church Ministy was established.
Elder DL envisions the church as a great work focused on reclaiming and reviving the family with relevant preaching, teaching, worship, and community endeavors that will show God’s love in practical forms to heal, restore, and revive the soul. Both Elder DL and First Lady Patreka Wortham are dedicated to ministering to the "Whole Person" so that families are compelled to know more of Jesus Christ.
